Founded with the aim of fostering scientific excellence and collaboration, ECCB serves as a hub for researchers, academics, and professionals in the field. Our activities include organizing conferences such as the European Symposium on Chemical Bonding (ESCB), awarding prizes and scholarships for groundbreaking research, and publishing special issues in scientific journals to highlight significant contributions in chemical bonding. ECCB Early Career Award
We are pleased to announce the launch of the first edition of the ECCB Early Career Award. This distinction aims to recognize outstanding achievements and innovative research in the field of chemical bonding theory by early career scientists, highlighting independence, originality, and future leadership potential within our community.
Please note that self-nominations are not permitted, and nominees are not required to be ECCB members, but must be active in Europe and typically within 8 years of their PhD (with appropriate consideration of career breaks).
Each nomination must be submitted as a single PDF file and include:
- A nomination letter (max. 2 pages) highlighting the candidate’s scientific contributions, independence, and impact.
- A motivation letter from the candidate (max. 2 pages), outlining their research vision and its relevance to chemical bonding and the ECCB mission.
- A scientific CV (max. 4 pages).
- One key publication representative of their work, with a clear statement of contribution in case of co-authorship.
Nominations should be sent to eurchembond@gmail.com with the subject line “ECCB Early Career Award – [Nominee Name]”. The deadline for submissions is 7 June 2026.
The evaluation will be carried out by the appointed subcommittee (Eduard Matito, Julia Contreras-García, and Alessandro Genoni), based on scientific excellence, originality, independence, and relevance to the ECCB’s mission. The award consists of a €500 prize and an invited oral presentation at CBOND2026, where the award will be formally presented.

The 5th European Symposium on Chemical Bonding (CBOND2026) will be held at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium) from 8 to 11 September 2026. CBOND2026 will be preceded on 7 September 2026 by a Young Researchers Symposium, offering early-career scientists a dedicated opportunity to present their work and connect with the community. Registration is open!
